AWARDS CEREMONY
The  6th grade awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 22,  from 9:30 AM to approximately 11:30, in the cafeteria.  Parents are cordially invited to come see their sons and daughters receive Certificates of Completion and other awards.  Please refer to the dress code for the dance as guidelines for this event as well.
At the close of the ceremony, please give students a chance to return to the classroom.  You may join us there.  Sign out sheets will be available so you can take your child with you.  Don’t forget any personal belongings that may be in the room.  Report cards will be given after the ceremony on May 22nd

Remember that we need to restrict the number of guests for each student to four adults. No siblings from other classes or other schools may attend.  Because of the length of the ceremony, we discourage bringing pre-school aged children.  Ticket request sheets went home with the invitations on May 3.  Students were given their tickets when the requests were returned, so if you did not get your tickets, please check with your child.  Each person attending the ceremony must present a ticket at the door, so be sure you bring yours with you.   Extra tickets will be released on May 20-21 as available.

Tickets are required.

PICNIC
We will be hosting a picnic for our sixth graders on Monday, May 20th.  This event is intended to reward those students who have continued to do their Personal Best. As with all special sixth grade events, students may be kept from this activity if their behavior has been poor.  If they are failing due to missing work, they can miss all or part of the festivities.  As always, students also have the option of bringing their own lunches, or getting lunch from the cafeteria that day.
The day of the picnic students will have an opportunity to play special games, but only if a release form has been signed and returned to school.  PTO will be sending those home. There will also be fun events and some free time.
We can still use some donations to go toward purchasing the food and drinks.
On Tuesday, we have a yearbook signing and other events to prepare for the awards ceremony.  If students did not pre-purchase a yearbook, they may bring a notebook, autograph book, or shirt to have signed.

SHORT DAY NOTES
Short days are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 20, 21 and 22.  Dismissal will be at 1:00.  Sixth grade students should not bring backpacks to school on those days.  We expect all students to be on task and abide by the McAuliffe Life Skills.  Those who choose to misbehave will be removed from any special activities, and sent to spend the day at a lower grade level.

All students entering any middle school must have their immunizations up to date and on record in the school.  If your child hasn’t started his/her round of shots yet, please do not delay.  The hepatitis shots series takes a while to complete.

EDLINE
At this point, if you do not have your child's Edline Activation code, you need to make an appointment to see me.  This takes just a couple of minutes.  You are welcome to stop by before or after school, but if I know you are coming I can be sure to be in my room.  If you need help setting up for Edline, please contact me.

ATTENDANCE & DISMISSAL POLICIES
Students who miss more than 9 days during a semester are subject to failing the semester. Please do not plan vacations for school days. In order to be counted as present, the student must be in class for at least four hours.  Our most important learning time will be in the mornings.  Students should be in class before 8:00 in order to prepare for the day.  All absences require a written excuse.  Please let me know ahead of time, whenever possible, if your child will be missing any school.  I expect students to make up missed work.
Your child’s safety is very important to me.  Please send a written note when dismissal plans change, even for one day.  Without one, students must be sent home the usual way.  In an emergency, call the front office.  Remember that students are not to be checked out after 1:45.
When students are checked out, and our class is not in the room (specials, lunch, recess, etc.), students may not return to the classroom for backpacks or anything. They will go straight to the office. If you send a note letting me know your child will be checking out early and at what time, then he/she can be packed up early, and bring the backpack along.
All student checkout and visitor check-in must be done through the front office.  All visitors/volunteers must obtain and wear a visitor’s badge.
Walkers are dismissed at 2:15 and exit through the back gate on Chamberlain.  If you want to meet your child to walk home together, please wait outside the gate.

Tests:  When a test is stamped “Correct and Return,” students in my classes are given the opportunity to improve the grade.  They may rework incorrect items on a new piece of paper, and staple that to the original test.  At no time should they change answers on the test paper.  Partial credit is given for corrected answers.
